This morning was like Christmas, waking up to a letter from Kāinga Ora stating that they have cancelled the Teitei Dr development due to the costs and current market conditions.
While this is great news, we have seen it before, they may have downtime to re-group, consider other options, and then re-attempt.
Next steps is to continue to OIA requests for information on the true decisions for cancelling and the proof to back it up.
However we will take this as a win for today, a great win it is!!
Rezone Land
More importantly, the ORS will need assistance from all rate-payers to back us when we request the land be re-zoned recreational/reserve, to ensure this doesn't happen again.
Time and time again, Council and KO have said one thing, but changed tack 180 degrees, so we cannot trust this is the end of it. We will keep fighting until the truth comes out & this land is re-zoned.
Following that, we need to ensure we have Councilors, a Mayor and a CEO we can trust. We have been lied to on every corner; this needs to change and we will advocate for more transparency and involvement when it comes to Ruapehu District Council.
Kāinga Ora also need to be held accountable for all these developments where they have lied about consultation, about the communities support & the small pockets of opposition. We need to band together with all these Oppositions and fight back in numbers with a possible class action against Kāinga Ora and their mismanagement.
