RDC Council expecting lawsuit

Updated: Aug 15, 2023

As our Ohakune rate payer members are aware, Ruapehu District Council (RDC) has been put on notice (9th August 2023) via our solicitors representing our 150+ members. This is now available for download, our solicitor has been instructed to draft/prepare affidavits of parties considered to be affected by the Teitei proposal.

We (rate payers) take no joy in the unnecessary legal action against our own council, wasting funds that could be spent on the community and our infrastructure.

Download the letter legal notice below.

We have made contact with Prime Minister Chris Hipkins where I got an acknowledgment

"I am writing on behalf of the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Chris Hipkins, to thank you for sending him copies of the emails you have written to the Hon Megan Woods about Kainga Ora, Ohakune."

Megan Woods was contacted initially and I received acknowledgment

"On behalf of Hon Dr Megan Woods, thank you for your email of 28 July 2023 regarding your concerns on the TeiTei development in Ohakune. Please note that your correspondence is with the Minister for her consideration. You can expect to hear from her in due course." .

The Ombudsman & the Minister for Local Government have also been contacted about the Local Government Act (LGA) breaches committed by RDC

Minister of housing, Megan Woods, has been reported to the authorities for a senior Kainga Ora staff member having an alleged Conflict of Interest on the Teitei Drive project, that has possible true or perceived personal gains. Not only this, but Minister Woods has explicitly told RDC into breaching the LGA (Local Government Act) by selling rate payer land without consultation, and breach the RMA with 2x Resource Consent applications.

Today I was advised that a developer will be taking legal action against RDC. The Developer has potentially been held back for 3 years, with huge costs, while being stonewalled by RDC who say they are too busy; the developer believes there may possibly be conflicts of interest by council in prioritizing infrastructure and the development of land by RDC themselves.

If you have concerns, like me, please sign our petition at https://chng.it/K6F8QnRCZQ

Ohakune is a population of around 1200 people; we are already at over 750 signatures
